Welcome to 4th Grade

Dear Parents:  Spring has arrived.  It can be both hot and cold in the classroom.  Dressing in layers is usually the best.  One more week until vacation!  We will be concentrating on Math in the upcoming weeks to prepare for the MCAS test and 5th grade!!  There are many 4th grade activities coming up.

  • Moving up Day Ceremony - Friday, June 18th, 2010 9:30-11am
  • 4th Grade Class Picnic, Friday, June 4th, 11:30 - 2:30, the committee could use parents to help (lunch, bounce house, carnival games and DJ)
  • Play - This Land is Your Land, Snapshots of America Rooms 9 & 14, DATE CHANGE Friday, May 21st, 2010, 9:30am and 2:00pm
  • MCAS Math sessions 1 and 2 on Tuesday, May 18 and Wednesday, May 19th.
  • Field Day, Thursday, May 20th, The PTO Could use some help with this activitiy, too.

School Year 2009-2010

READING

We are reading Kneeknock Rise by Natalie Babbit as a class.  The students are reading and reporting on informational books at their reading level.  A newletter will be publikshed with their book reviews after vacation.

MATH

We are working on multiplying larger numbers and long division.  We will be reviewing all of the years Math before the MCAS Math tests on May 18 & May 19th.  Study, study, study all facts, addition, subtraction, multiplication and division! 

WRITING

We will continue to write, although there won't be anymore long compositions to write this year.

SCIENCE

Science will focus on Weather which is our last unit of the year.  Ask you child about it! After we are finished with Weather we will be doing some fun experiments with everyday materials.  The students will learn how to write Lab reports for their experiments..   

SOCIAL STUDIES

The USA is number one on the agenda for this year.  We have three more regions of the USA to study.  The students have their roles and need to study and memorize them for the week after vacation.

 The play will be on Friday, May 21st at 9:30am and 2:00pm.

We will be having a cast party afterschool that day so you can arrange a pick up at 5pm now.  Anyone that may be able to help that day, it will be appreciated.  There are 40 students in the play and crowd control is important.  We will the learn about the Caribbean Islands, Central America, Canada, and Mexico.

RTI (Response to Intervention)

The groups will be reassessed and changed as needed.  The focus should change from Reading to Math to prepare for MCAS.  If you have any questions or concerns please contact me.

A Very Important Notice

for the parents and students entering room 9.

I happen to be very sensitive to perfumes, fragrant lotions, colognes and scented hair products, such as VIVE, and any type of Musk. I have adverse reactions (including migraines and asthma) to many different scents. Therefore, I am asking that you be sure that you and your child refrain from wearing any perfumes, colognes, scented lotions or hair products while in my classroom. I apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. Thank you in advance for your cooperation.
