Checkout Policies
Classes visit the library once a week. All books are checked out for one week and returned on the classroom's library day. Students may renew a book if they have not had time to finish it.  The library does not charge late fees. However, if a book is damaged or lost, you will be asked to pay the replacement cost of that book.

Checkout limits by grade: Kindergarten - 1 book
                                        1st Grade - 2 books
                                        2nd, 3rd, 4th - 3 books

Overdue Notices
Notices are sent home on the student's library day. If a book is one month or more overdue, a notice will be mailed home and the student's library privileges are suspended until the book is returned or the replacement cost is paid.

Birthday Book Club
The Birthday Book Club is a program in which you have the opportunity to remember your child's birthday by donating a book in their name to our school Library. A Birthday Book list will be sent home in time for your child's birthday.  If you are interested, you can select a book, fill out the form, and return the form with a check for the amount indicated made out to Phelps PTO.

Accelerated Reader
The Accelerated Reader program is used in grades 2 - 4. Students will read a designated book and then take a short Reading Practice Quiz about the book on the computer.  These quizzes check the student's comprehension and understanding of the story and also help with their literacy skills and vocabulary development.
