WORK PERMITS1. Get the employment Permit Application completed. - 14 and 15 year olds: complete Sections 1 thru 5.
- 16 and 17 year olds: Sections 1, 2, 4, and 5.
2. Bring the application (in person; no one else can pick up your work permit) to the High School Office along with the following documents: - Proof of your age (example: birth certificate, passport).
- Proof you are attending school. (School ID's are not acceptable because they are not kept current; the latest report card is generally acceptable, or a letter from your school that you are currently enrolled.)
Note: If you bring the application to the office of the school you are attending, neither of these are required.
3. Once issued the work permit, give it to your employer. The permit is valid as long as you continue to work for that employer. When you leave that employment, the employer must return the work permit to the school Superintendent's office within two days. If you get a new job elsewhere, you must obtain a new work permit. Your permit is specific to one employer and can not be transferred to a new employer. 4. Review the information attached to the application so that you and your parents/guardians are aware of the type of work you can/can not do, and the number of hours per week you are permitted to work. It is your employers job to comply with the law, but it is always good for you to know what your limitations are regarding employment. These laws are in place to protect you from working in dangerous jobs or from working too long, too late, or too early. Knowing this information can help you on the job. Enjoy the job, but remember ... your first priority is to complete your education successfully!
