CURRICULUM DEVELOPMENT
Continuous work is required to maintain an up-to-date and effective curriculum in a constantly changing world. In order to provide a curriculum which effectively meets the needs of students and the expectations of the community:
-
The curriculum will be prescribed by the School Committee in accordance with state requirements.
-
The curriculum will be subjected to ongoing evaluation and review. Gaps and weaknesses will be identified and offerings in other area schools will be examined. Industry and colleges will be polled for their input.
-
The School Committee expects the administration and faculty to be continually sensitive to changing conditions that may require corresponding changes in the curriculum.
-
The School Committee expects the school system to undertake intensive curriculum evaluation and revision in certain areas from time to time as the need for this is demonstrated.
The School Committee will hear reports on ongoing curriculum study and revision. It shall consider recommendations of the staff for intensive curriculum study and may authorize the establishment of committees to work in particular areas. Such committees will be composed of staff members and may include students and other citizens.
Teachers have professional obligations to the school program beyond regular classroom duties. These obligations include work on curriculum committees.
Recommendations for curriculum changes submitted through appropriate channels will be acted upon by the School Committee.
