EMPLOYMENT OF PRINCIPALS

The Superintendent of Schools shall appoint principals for each public school within the district. Principals shall be employed by the Agawam Public Schools under individual written contracts of employment. Said contracts shall comply with School Committee policies regarding levels of compensation, including wages and benefits. The Superintendent of Schools shall confirm to the School Committee that the principals' employment contracts fully comply with School Committee policies regarding levels of compensation, including wages and benefits. The levels of compensation, including wages and benefits, may be exceeded only with the approval of the School Committee.

Contracts issued to principals will be up to three years in length. Such contracts may be renewed by the Superintendent of Schools at levels of compensation, including wages and benefits, determined by School Committee policies, provided, however, that the Superintendent of Schools may employ a principal under the terms and conditions of the pervious contract of employment.

As a condition of employment, each principal must maintain current certification requirements, adhere to the policies and goals of the School Committee and the directives of the Superintendent of Schools, and shall annually before April 1 submit with the School Council the educational goals and school improvement plan for the school building (s) under his/her direction.
