Agawam Public Schools - BBBE UNEXPIRED-TERM FULFILLMENT

Vacancies on the Agawam School Committee by reason of the resignation, death, or disqualification of a member will be filled in accordance with state law and the provisions of the City Charter.

First 18 Months

If a vacancy occurs within the first 18 months of the member’s term of office, the remaining members of the School Committee and the City Council will meet and elect a suitable person to fill the vacancy for the balance of the unexpired term. A majority vote of the officers entitled to vote is required.

After 18 Months

If a vacancy occurs after 18 months of the member’s term of office, the person elected at the next regular City election who receives the highest number of votes for the School Committee and who is not then an incumbent shall fill the remainder of the unexpired term in addition to the term for which he/she was elected.
