| Truancy/Attendance Officer Ms. Patricia Burns, Attendance Officer (413)531-0932
The school department’s Truancy/Attendance Officer can ensure that students have the opportunity to graduate with their classmates by helping them to make good attendance choices. The sooner poor attendance habits are addressed with students, the likelihood of their graduating high school increases dramatically. With the exception of illness, the first step towards graduation day begins with a student attending school every day and on time. If a parent/guardian is having difficulty waking their child in the morning and/or getting them off to school, the Truancy/Attendance Officer can be contacted and asked to come to the home to encourage a student to attend school. Referrals regarding poor student attendance can be made by school staff and/or parents/guardians. If a student’s attendance does not improve and continues to decline, a referral will be sent to the Department of Social Services, which may seek court intervention.
